Atlanta Smiles Foundation
Giving Survivors The Gift Of A Smile
Our Mission
The mission of The Atlanta Smiles Foundation is to provide dental restoration and facial reconstructive services to survivors of domestic abuse. By mending their smile we send them on their journey to reclaiming their self-esteem, their sense of value, and their lives.
Our Vision
Our vision is that dentists and reconstructive surgeons will adopt our model to implement Smiles Foundations within their own dental practices in cities across the country and to solicit and join health care providers, domestic violence shelters and like organizations in mending the smiles of survivors and their children. Our banner will become USAsmiles.
About Atlanta Smiles Foundation
The Atlanta Smiles Foundation was established to help facilitate the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s Give Back A Smile Program. After experiencing the rising need locally in Atlanta to help survivors of domestic abuse, the Atlanta Smiles Foundation was founded in 2006.
We are a 501 (c) 3 organization that benefits domestic abuse survivors and their families by providing pro-bono dental and restorative services in the privacy of a safe and dedicated office. It is my dream and passion that dentists across the country emulate the Foundation’s goals that have been established and locally facilitate another branch of our program. Poverty, abuse and people in need are everywhere in America.
Based on individual circumstances the dentistry provided may range from preventive and routine work to cosmetic dentistry. For survivors of severe domestic abuse this may include dental and facial reconstruction. We also work with Dr. Marc Yune, an Atlanta Facial Plastic Surgeon, who provides surgery to the head and neck area for those who have been injured.
As health care professionals, we believe we possess special gifts and talents for making a huge difference in the lives of our patients. We utilize our skills to eliminate serious pain and improve overall health to survivors and to their children. Aesthetically speaking, our work can make a critical difference by giving people a renewed confidence to function at a higher level in their everyday lives. We believe this confidence gives survivors the courage to leave the violence that threatened to destroy them and their children.*ASF works in partnership with area shelters, agencies and programs that are dedicated to survivors of domestic abuse
