Gingival Recontouring in Atlanta
When you smile, what do you see? If the answer is a “gummy” smile, you’re not alone. Many people have a gummy smile — one that shows too much gum tissue and overshadows the appearance of teeth. This can significantly affect a person’s self-confidence and willingness to smile. If prominent gums or a gummy smile embarrasses you, Atlanta Smiles & Wellness can help. Led by Drs. Dina Giesler and Marianna Kovitch, our team of dental experts are skillful, well-trained and experienced in gingival recontouring, also known as gum lift, which improves the appearance of the gums for a balanced and proportionate smile.
Can You Benefit from Gingival Recontouring?
The goal of gingival recountouring is to remove excess gum tissue that creates the gummy smile. Following treatment, the gums and teeth should look more proportionate to each other. You may benefit from gingival recontouring if you believe your gums are prominent and your teeth look too short compared to your gums.
To determine whether you are an appropriate candidate for the treatment, our dentists will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums and evaluate your health history. Ideally, patients should be free of any dental diseases prior to undergoing treatment. You will also be asked about your aesthetic goals, and the results you seek from the procedure. If our dentists determine you are an appropriate candidate for gingival recontouring, they will use this information to design a plan customized to fit your unique needs and goals. Depending on your case, our dentists may recommend combining gingival recontouring with another cosmetic dental treatment they feel can best achieve your dream smile.
Gingival recontouring is a quick and easy cosmetic dental procedure performed in our state-of-the-art dental practice. When performing the procedure, our dentists use the Gemini 810 + 980 Diode Laser, an advanced, dual-wavelength diode laser designed to remove and reshape hard and soft tissue faster and more precisely than with traditional scalpel instruments traditionally used for gingival recontouring. This advanced technology also minimizes bleeding and discomfort during and after treatment, cutting down on healing time and reducing the risk of complications and post-op side effects.
During treatment, one of our dentists will apply a local anesthetic to numb your gums. They will then use the Gemini laser to gently and precisely remove excess gum tissue. Our dentists combine skill and the precision of the laser to sculpt the remaining gum tissue in a way that compliments the teeth. Following treatment, you may experience mild soreness and swelling. These side effects are only temporary and should subside a few days after treatment.
