Millions of Americans are imprisoned within their own homes. They are victims of horrendous acts of violence. The innocent children watch hopelessly as their mothers are abused and then frequently fall victims at the hand of the abusers themselves. The neighbors hear the desperate cries and screams, yet no one wants to get involved. Until it happens to you or someone you love, it is impossible for you to truly comprehend.

Here is my question to the women who stay? What would it take for you to walk away? If you were given the money, opportunity and ensured safety for yourself and your children would you leave? The reasons for staying are numerous. They have been programmed to think that it is their fault; that they did something wrong; that they deserve the abusive treatment. They want to keep their families intact for the sake of the children. Unfortunately the person they fell in love with becomes a stranger. So many times they are so distraught they don’t realize what is happening to them. They are victims, but don’t realize it, until they are able to leave.

The Atlanta Smiles Foundation is dedicated to helping these women and their children. Dedicated to those who have demanded a better life for themselves. Dedicated to those who were brave enough to walk away…to the survivors. As children of God, living in America, we deserve to live without fear.

The Atlanta Smiles Foundation serves the dental needs of women and children in the privacy of a safe and dedicated private office. The ASF works in partnership with area dentists, shelters, agencies and programs that are dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic abuse to achieve a better life. The ASF is dedicated to putting a stop to domestic violence through networking and political means; and to aid in fundraising and education.

We as Americans are so blessed to have the best dental schools in the world that produce the best dentists in the world. In world standards, dentistry is performed for those in the middle and upper class. These standards make it difficult for an average family of four to receive ideal dental care. The Atlanta Smiles Foundation is dedicated to help those survivors who financially need assistance to restore their smiles by giving them beautiful and healthy teeth. We want you to look forward to your future.

Dr. Dina Giesler, founder of the Atlanta Smiles Foundation saw the rising need in Atlanta to help survivors of domestic abuse. Her goal is to serve the survivors and their children in private dental offices around Atlanta and the surrounding areas. It is her dream and passion that dentists across the country emulate the Foundation’s goals that have been established and facilitate the National GIVE BACK A SMILE program. “Poverty, abuse and people in need are everywhere in America. “Atlanta is my Africa”, and if we could all do our part of giving back on a daily basis, our country would be a better place.”

I know how frustrating it can be to donate to charities and wonder where the money goes. I know when I am working on a patient, they are getting directly what is being given to them. This grassroots giving is so important and so needed in our communities. Whether you have time or money, you can be assured that the ASF donations are going directly to the survivors.

Dr. Giesler serves on the Board for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation. She serves as the Fundraising Chair and Event Chair for the Foundation’s Celebration of Smiles Event at the Annual Conference.

To educate healthcare professionals, political leaders and the public to the severity of Domestic Violence. To give Survivors and their children beautiful healthy smiles so they can begin their new life violence free. To work in conjunction with the National Give Back A Smile program and the local domestic violence shelters and organizations that are dedicated to empowering those who have survived Domestic Violence. Last, but not least, to serve the Lord unconditionally by serving our fellow neighbors in need.

5. Corporate Sponsorships who are dedicated to providing direct support and eliminating Domestic Violence.
